    Euphonion: Huge music "box"

Hey hey guys, long time no see

We had a standard project at school, we(team of four) were required to search for old furniture(late 1800, early 1900) and draw the object(in 2d, using some CAD software or by hand). We found this piece in a museum. I liked the detailes and decided some 3d work would do it justice since we documented it so much. So... I modeled most of the detailes and the main shape. There is still a loooooot missing from it(including the internal mechanism for the music stuff).

Materials will be changed, this was just for the project.. from now on it`s detailing to the max!

I want it to be as accurate as possible to the real model, I think even with the wooden parts in place(not just the exterior), maybe for an "exploded 3d" shot.

Modeled, sculpted and painted the part where the coin should be put, I tried to make it as accurate as possible.

This is the external handle, used to play it

I will fiddle with the metal texture(on the bar thing) and in the final version there will be proper maps for every material, not there are almost only diffuse materials applied.

Thanks and I hope you like it!

Gold shader is very cool. Presentation needs work but I am sure you will get there soon. Thanks for dropping by here!

Thanks simonhc! Glad you like that shader What do you mean by presentation(the final one? or how I am displaying my wips?)?

Here is the completed back part:

    Hope you like it...

P.S. Tomorrow, I`ll start on the interior!

Here is the base mesh for the upper part(the gable, loosely translated). It will be barely damaged, some dents here and there, the position has shifted in these years and it`s come out of it`s place. I will try to "settle" the geometry tonight so tomorrow I can start painting in some details where it`s needed and of course the textures.

The back part is kinda supposed to be without details...

    Hope you like it

    Any feedback would be awesome,

    Alex

    Hey guys

Here is another update, this time with wood textures. It`s a bit complicated since the piece has been restored a few times(as far as I can tell from the wood finish amount used).

I tried to keep it as close as possible with the actual piece.

I will work on the bump amount on some pieces. Hope you like it! Also I`ve been thinking of a scenario for a short animation... will see how it turns out, still a lot of work to do on the exterior let alone the interior....

    Any C&C would be awesome!

    Really nice shader and modeling

Can I ask you the resolution of the texture?

Thanks d4N! Glad you like it! The textures(individual for each object) is 1024/1024, since I would like some close-ups, and it will get bigger(like 4096/4096) on the big boards.

I went and modeled part of the interior.. it`s not the mechanical part, it`s the storage part(the metal discs were stored here) I still haven`t decided how to make those, because they have a lot of tiny holes and metal sticking out.. I guess I could make them with opacity maps.. but that would leave out the small metal parts that are sticking out(the small metal parts are used to play the songs, they were the result of making the holes in the front of the disk, so the back part can have bumps to play). That was a long explanation for a simple concept...

So here is the lower part:

    C&C would be awesome

p.s. starting on the internal mechanism.. fingers crossed!

Here is the start of the internal mechanism, still a loooot to do... but as usual, I didn`t photograph everything.. so it takes a lot of time trying to figure out where everything goes and the purpose of it.

    Hope you like it.

More stuff added to the mechanical part.. still some details missing. I`ll work on then tomorrow and also I`ll make a bigger render.

Here is a relatively small(720p) render:

Hope you like it, and C&C would be awesome!

Here is the internal mechanism almost done! Still missing a small (but I think very important) part.. In the reference, the mechanism was broken(and I didn`t take the pictures good enough so I can figure it out... I might still have to pay a visit to the museum again (bummer... it`s in another city )

Here it is, a larger version:

I`ll soon start paining the other parts, so textures, here they come!
