Autodesk recently announced that Softimage® 2015 will be the last version of the software to be produced. The final version is to be shipped around April 14, 2014. As of March 28, 2014, standalone licenses will no longer be available. The product will be supported for the next two years until April 30, 2016.
Autodesk Softimage Subscription customers will be offered options to transition to either Maya or 3ds Max software at no additional cost. Options will be made available until February 1, 2016. Autodesk also informs that upgrade paths will also be available for customers who are not on Subscription.
Softimage customers can choose to remain on Softimage 2015 or earlier versions after April 2016. Licenses will continue to work indefinitely. There will be no more updates available after April 2016.
Many factors were taken into consideration concerning the decision to discontinue releases of Softimage. Autodesk assures that all effort will be put into helping customers transition to Maya or 3ds Max, as well as into focusing on development of better products at a faster rate.
